ACHSE Verlag is an independent children’s book publisher based in Vienna, specializing in innovative picture books. The program focuses on diverse messages and creative illustrations, including translations. With a small team, a lot of passion, and dedication, ACHSE Verlag creates beautiful picture books for everyone.

Founded in 1989, Bibliothek der Provinz publishes Austrian literature and fiction, regional writing, beautifully designed photography and art books, and children’s books that buck the mainstream picture book trend, filling gaps in bookshelves both in terms of content and illustrations.

At Edition 5Haus, the book as an artwork becomes an experience that lasts. We only publish a few books a year, and we invest in green production, with eco-friendly inks and the FSC stamp. We organise a creative and innovative programme of events in both the analogue and digital world. Our SLOW BOOKS are slow, living books that break down barriers between generations.

Since its founding in 2001, the colorful and diverse children’s book program of Edition Nilpferd has become a staple in the German-speaking children’s book market, with our books regularly receiving awards. In addition to many stars of the children’s book scene, we regularly publish exciting works by young authors and illustrators. You can also (re)discover classics that should not be missing from any children’s bookshelf. Since 2015 Edition Nilpferd is a part of the Glöckler Group which also includes the publishing houses G&G, Ueberreuter, Annette Betz, as well as the non-fiction publishing house Carl Ueberreuter.

G&G is deeply passionate about nurturing young minds through captivating stories and engaging learning materials. With a focus on fostering a love for reading, our wide range of books caters to children aged three to 14, as well as providing valuable resources for educators. Jungbrunnen publishes captivating books that encourage further reflection. Young readers are entertained without being made to believe in idealised or superficial worlds. In these books, children can feel at home and get to grips with existential questions. Jungbrunnen places a particular emphasis on high-quality content, language and illustrations.

Leykam is the oldest Austrian publisher and publishes unconventional nonfiction, read-aloud and read-alone stories for children aged 4–12. The focus is on a fascination for nature and the animal kingdom, encouraging children to experience and discover extraordinary things, expanding individual perspectives, and the desire to make a change.

Luftschacht (meaning “air shaft”) was originally a hybrid music, text and performance project initiated in the mid-1990s. An air shaft connected the basement rehearsal room with the outside world: it supplied the artists with oxygen inside and simultaneously released their sounds and texts to the outside. The first book programme followed in 2003, and today Luftschacht is a trade publisher driven by a sense of mission.

Obelisk’s programme ranges from children’s classics from Käthe Recheis or Christine Nöstlinger through to realistic representations of children’s experiences and the kinds of problems facing young people in today’s world. CLUB, Obelisk’s paperback series, offers affordable reading material for children of different ages and interests. There is something for every child, every level and every reading age: exciting or cheerful, animal stories or detective stories, fantasy books or realistic children’s stories.

Picus Verlag publishes fiction, children’s books, non-fiction and travel writing. The internationally oriented children’s book list defines children’s literature as literature first and foremost. Instead of educational criteria, the focus here is on the quality of the stories and illustrations, tongue-in-cheek humour and high artistic standards.

Tyrolia is a renowned publishing house specialising in religion, theology, alpine literature and high-quality books for children and young readers. The focus is on books with an aesthetic and literary edge, from board books to YA novels. Tyrolia’s publications for children and young readers are highly regarded and have won multiple awards.

Vermes-Verlag publishes a range of books designed to enrich children’s lives anddevelopment. Together with exciting illustrators, and through the joy of storytelling with pictures and music, Vermes-Verlag strives to not only entertain but to communicate important basic values: respect for nature, ethical principles and social skills.
